After visiting the other universities and thinking about what would best suit me, I decided that actually, right now, taking on a university degree just isn't right. I'm now 100% sure on what I want to do and the idea of sitting through constant lectures just wasn't for me. The UCAS deadline passed and I was stil happy with my choice but I recieved an email from Northumbria, another university I had looked at, advertising degree apprenticeships and saying it wasn't too late to apply for them. I did some research online about higher level apprenticeships and decided it was something I wanted to look into. As someone who prefers practical learning, apprenticeships have always been appealing but they have never been in the right industry and actually the low wage was off putting too. When I discovered the higher level apprenticeships, I saw they had marketing ones and i got excited!
anyway, later I went to the open evening and listened to the talks. Honestly, I don't think I could have found something better suited to my skill set and lifestyle. you work full time and do university part time and the employer pays your tuition fees. Plus obviously you get the degree and you are getting payed full time, but because you are working at a higher level, you get a much better wage which would allow me to move out. I spoke to an employer from HomeGroup about their marketing jobs and we got on really well, I loved the sound of the apprenticeship they were offering and they were super reasonable too. He said usually they promote the apprentices as they learn more and can be given more responsibilities and they keep them on usually once the apprenticeship has finished and give them a full time job.
This was so appealing to me and I'm really interested in doing it as it ticks all my boxes.
I love Newcastle and know loads of people who live/study there. However, after carefully considering my options, I have decided to take a year to get some work experience and see what life throws at me before I commit to another potentially 5 years of work and education in marketing. I feel like I need a buffer year before I go on to the next thing because I think that the workload that comes with doing a degree and a full time apprenticeship is huge and I want to know I'm ready to take it on comfortably.
